Hypo-what?

After being sick for almost the entire winter season, they discovered I have hypothyroidism and an auto-immune disorder. To make a long story short, it is common and being on medication has changed my life. I am no longer lethargic, moody and so on. It runs in my family so it was only a matter of time or so says my doctor. They’ve been studying whether the on-set is viral and my case would be a great example. They had tested me last July and my levels were normal and then in the midst of a virus I couldn’t seem to beat, they tested me again and my levels were off the charts. Apparently my thyroid has just decided he would rather not work alone anymore. A lot of people blame being overweight on hypothyroidism and it’s true that it effects your ability to lose weight easily (if that’s even possible for anyone but men… joking, of course… maybe), I cannot blame my weight on my thyroid. I am the one who opened my mouth and shoved copious amounts of food and beer down.

In my new-found energy I started a new healthy living plan on Valentine’s Day and since then have lost 25 lbs. :) Pretty exciting stuff. I work out with a trainer, Jodie (the sessions were an early wedding present from my parents) once to twice a week and am in the gym alone the rest of the week. I have also started running. Sort of. Maybe more of a walk/jog. Taylor can walk and keep up with me just fine when I’m “running.” You have to start somewhere, right? Having still 65 lbs or so to go, it’s hard to tell a major difference in my body. I was too embarrassed to take pictures although I’m going to from here on out. But everyone around me has started to notice and comment and it’s motivating.

I also recently found the awesome-ness of running and healthy living blogs as well! I will add them to my favorite blogs tab above.  Hopefully things have settled down enough to where I can post more frequently because the inspiration and support from other bloggers is something I need to succeed.

Stay tuned for more on what we've been eating (yes, T is losing too: 15 lbs! and he hasn't even really tried yet... men...), what I've been doing in the gym and the beer that I still drink.
