"Inline Skating" is for the birds

This is going to be a short and sweet post.  Weight is not something I like to talk about.  Maybe people who have 40 different bikinis or stretch wearing mini-skirts way too far into winter like to talk about their weight, but not I.  This is all I'm going to say: I need to lose 60 lbs.  Phew.  Got that out of the way.  :)

T and I recently joined a local gym to get our beer bellies, flabby arms, tree trunk thighs, double chins, and butt in shape. (Side note: we're not totally bonkers... because I have access to a local apt's 'gym', we tested ourselves by saying if we consistently go to work out at this 'gym' for 30 days, then we would invest in a gym.  This 'gym' consisted of one bike and a treadmill that was constantly broken down so I was ready to move on to bigger and better things).  So, we joined this gym because it's awesome (of course after T spent 2 weeks comparing pricing and benefits).  My favorite part about this gym is that it has a dark movie theater room where they show current movies and they have rows of treadmills, ellipticals, bikes and stairmasters instead of chairs.  LOVE it.  Especially love that its dark and the whole world can't see my jiggly parts straining to keep up with my pace!  The gym also has a women's only workout area accessed through the women's locker room.  It has a ton of cardio and weight equiment too.

We also purchased EA Sports Active (used) for our new Wii.  Tonight was our first night of the 30 Day Challenge and let me tell you, it whipped my rear...  holy squats and lunges!  My quads and hamstrings want to slap me.  And I don't even want to talk about the inline skating.

Does anyone else do at home workouts via game system or dvd?  What are some of your favorites?

  2. I love my EA Sports Active 2. Mamavation gives them away all the time. I think Katie has won 2 or 3 of them, so ask her if she'll sell it to you for cheap.

  4. Ugh, I just started working out again. I want to lose about 30 pounds, but I refuse to "diet". Not sure how that's going to work out for me. :-) I have the EA Active, the EA Active More Workouts, the EA Active 2, and Gold's Gym Cardio Workout. Last year I was exercising a lot and lost 15 pounds. Then I stopped and gained almost all of it back. I started with the Active, and moved on to the More Workouts. LOVE THEM. Love the Active 2. I definitely recommend the Gold's Gym Cardio Workout too. Lots of boxing and it definitely works your muscles! Okay, I'll stop rambling now. :-)

  5. I hate going to the gym, but if any around here had a women's only section or the theater area like yours does, I would so go!

  6. I just recently started reading your blog and I it's so fun! I have more weight to lose than you so I'm always on the lookout too. I love Jillian Michaels DVDs, especially 30 Day Shred. It's really hard but I like it (if I can do it you can for sure!). Wii Fit Plus, Active, and Biggest Loser are some games I have. If they offer classes at your gym I would recommend cardio kickboxing or spinning. Have fun!

  8. I wish I had motivation to work out, maybe someday! Anywho, thanks for the comment. I would have never though to write a letter a company saying I liked the product. I will have to try that sometime!

  9. Okay, seriously, what gym is this? That movie room = awesome! And I would love the women's only workout area. During the last ice storm our power was out and I went to Falling Springs to try and keep up with my workouts. I was in the weight room with this one man and he watched me the ENTIRE time. Eventually I just quit b/c he was freaking me out.

I work out at home, I have my own little work out room. One great way to find new fitness DVDs is to get netflix. They have a bunch on there--all the Biggest Loser and Jillian Michaels DVDs are on there. Or if you have OnDemand, you can get workouts on there from FitTV. If you want more recommendations, let me know!

Oh, and I don't know what your eating plan is, but I lost 30 pounds on Weight Watchers before I even started working out. It's been my experience that food choices get the weight off and exercise makes you look good after. :)

Sorry for my 8 years long comment. Haha.

  10. I never thought of Jessica's tip to use netflix to try out different fitness dvd's.

My husband is a body builder, and sometimes it is so daunting to even begin the thought process of keeping up. At one point we did the Insanity dvd's, which totally kick your trash. We paired that with only eating 30g of sugar per day not including fruit. I noticed a difference, but fell of the wagon. I need to get back on and soon!

  11. The Active 1 you have the controller hooked to the nunchuck. The nunchuck goes into a band strapped around your leg. The Active 2 has a leg band too, but it is its own sensor. So no cord to get in the way. It also has a heart sensor that goes on your left arm. The cool thing is that you don't need to use the controller for a LOT of the exercises with the Active 2. Plus, I think the workouts are better with 2 than with 1. More of a variety in the core exercises, warm-ups, and cool-downs. Wow, I sound like a salesperson. :-)

  15. I would totally join a gym that let you excercise in the DARK! Plus, a women's only section. Those perks will help you stay consistent, I bet! Good luck!

  16. I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and have cross-trained in boxing, Muay Thai, and other martial arts. Since getting married and having two kids, I have had little time to do anything even closely related to exercise, much less martial arts. From an exercise as well as a martial arts training perspective, this game is incredibly fun and effective, particularly for those who have limited time and resources.
